IF Receives 3,000 Dollar Grant from Workers of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church to Help Orphaned Yazidi Children

On August 14, 2007, the town of Sinjar, situated near the northern Iraqi town of Mosul, was subjected to a coordinated suicide attack. At least four suicide bombers driving fuel tankers packed with explosives raced into the residential areas to maximize the death toll. This attack is considered one of the deadliest in Iraq so far, killing an estimated 500 ethnic Yazidi, wounding hundreds more, and leaving over 200 Yazidi orphans in dire need. The conditions for these orphans are grim and there little aid or support has reached the sufferers of this great tragedy.

Working with the Yazidi Brotherhood and Fraternity League, IF is pleased to announce that it received a 3,000 dollar grant from St. Alban’s Episcopal church to address this pressing situation, and provide these orphans with essentials, such as food, clothing, educational supplies, and toys. For as little as 100 U.S. Dollars, IF can secure one child with four completed outfits of warm clothing, a warm blanket, text books, and other educational supplies, addressing the most immediate needs of these children. The inhabitants of Sinjar are unlikely to recover from Augusts’ attack and create institutions to care for these children, so we are deeply grateful for the generosity of the St. Alban’s Church. We will post further updates on our website and newsletters.
