Revitalization of Iraqi Schools and Stabilization of Education Program

The Revitalization of Iraqi Schools and Stabilization of Education (RISE) program aimed to promote rapid school enrollment and sustained retention in the school system and thus contribute to democracy, equality, stability, economic growth and improved well-being of Iraqi children and families.

The Iraq Foundation (IF) participated in this program working with Creative Associates International Inc. (CAII), the lead contractor, and with other RISE partners. The IF RISE team conducted an initial Rapid Assessment Program (RAP) of Iraqi schools and then move to set up demonstration programs in selected school in both urban and rural areas.

The demonstration programs included life skills modules covering such topics as tolerance, conflict reduction and resolution, trauma reduction, nutrition and basic health skills. Other demonstration programs included child-centered education, active learning, training teachers on using participatory techniques and peer learning. In addition, the IF RISE team assisted in the distribution of school kits and supplies, and worked with schools and community leaders on establishing school committees and parent-teacher associations.

The IF RISE team carried out a nationwide media and outreach campaign in support of the RISE project and provided general outreach and social mobilization in the project target areas.
